It all started in the third grade with a fairy who lived in a blueberry. She was the main character in my first book, the kind your mother types and sews the pages of before you bind it with covers made of cardboard and wrapped in contact paper.
It’s been quite a journey back to my writing life. Like many women, I took many detours. I’ve done journalism, copy editing, public relations. In always trying to satisfy the expectations of others, I lost my connection to the writer within and the work I’m truly passionate about. Writing and producing my own short film, and even directing the trailer for a second one was creatively challenging and exciting. But my attempts to make it into television writing left me exhausted and headed for my creative home—fiction.
Now I’m rocking my MFA in Creative Writing (2020 graduation, here I come!), writing magical realism, and helping other women find the writer within. If you’re here, thanks for stopping by.
